Elephant Ear Cookies
An original recipe Grace Ball Soule (Gramp’s mother) gave to me as a new bride. Gramp thinks it came from his Grandmother Ball. When Aunt Gay was a little girl, their mother used to tell her that she had been out gathering some elephant ears but she didn’t hurt the elephants because she knew Gay would be upset if she did!
Note: As in all old recipes, no temperatures or times are given. It was difficult to gage how hot the old wood stove oven would be. Today we have to make substitutions if we don’t use lard or there is no sour milk available (for the latter, add a little vinegar!) – Jeanne
