Scotch Cookies
Cookies are still family favorite after 40 years!

Ingredients
- 1 cup + 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 cup + 1 teaspoon shortening
- ½ cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 2¾ cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ginger
- ¼ teaspoon cloves
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375° F.
- In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, ginger and cloves. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream sugar and shortening.
- Add molasses and egg to butter mixture and mix until well combined.
- Add in flour mixture and mix well.
- Roll dough into balls size of a walnut.
- Place remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar into a small shallow bowl or plate.
- Take clean glass, rub the bottom with 1 teaspoon shortening, dip in sugar then lightly press on ball of dough. When bottom of glass runs out of sugar, dip it again.
- Bake for 12 minutes. Let cool on cookie sheet for 2 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to finish cooling.
