Oatmeal Carmelitas
This is a recipe that I got when I was a Girl Scout in 5th or 6th grade from a girl in my troop whom I couldn’t stand. I loved the treats she brought in and I desperately wanted the recipe. I hated to ask her for it but am so glad I did since it’s still a favorite of mine. – Kathy
Ingredients
Crumb Mixture
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup butter, melted
Topping
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- ¾ cup caramel ice cream topping
- 3 tablespoon flour
- ½ cup chopped nuts
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350° F.
- In a medium bowl, combine crumb mixture ingredients.
- Put half of crumb mixture in a 9-inch square pan. Save the rest for the top.
- Bake the crust for 10 minutes.
- In a small bowl, combine the topping mixture and then pour over baked crust.
- Sprinkle remaining crumbs over caramel topping.
- Bake again for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Chill bars for easy cutting.
